Sun Readers

Normally when I think of Andalusia the first things which springs to mind is the Costa del Sol teeming with sunburnt, Irish bar frequenting, Daily Mirror readers having early morning battles with Germans over the best positioned sun-beds. So when my husband suggested we took a trip to Seville, the capital of the Southern Spanish region, you can imagine that I wasn’t exactly enthusiastic.
However, I agreed to go with him on the condition that he chose a nice central Seville Hotel with swimming pool and spa etc. (I also had in the back of my mind that at least if it was an utter disaster I would have complete control over any future holiday destination decisions.)
My husband decided that as it was his idea it should be him who did all of the planning and so I was left to simply pack the suitcases, which for some reason, no matter how old the man, he is still incapable of doing for himself unless he wants to spend a week wearing the same boxers and 2 pairs of odd socks.
As you’ve probably noticed from my Daily Mirror comment I am a bit of a snob and so naturally I was not overly thrilled when we arrived at Stanstead and I realised we were flying Ryan-Air. However, after just over 2 hours in the air we arrived hassle-free into Seville airport and within the hour we had dropped our luggage at the hotel and we were out in the streets of Seville.
It was only then that I realised how wrong my preconceived idea had been. The city is simply stunning. It is composed of winding streets and Moorish architecture set alongside of the beautiful Guadalquivir River. We spent the week visiting the Cathedral, the Royal Alcazar Palaces, eating fantastic tapas and watching incredible flamenco shows. Needless to say I didn’t have time to visit the hotel swimming pool or spa.
Unfortunately I won’t have sole control over future holiday plans but considering the success of this holiday and the beautiful city my husband took me to maybe that’s not such a bad thing.
